4. ERCIM

ERCIM - the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics - aims to foster collaborative work within the European research community and to increase co-operation with European industry. Leading research institutes from seventeen European countries are members of ERCIM. http://www.ercim.org/.

In ERCIM several working groups are active. The purpose of an ERCIM working group is to build and maintain a network of ERCIM researchers in a particular scientific field. The working groups are open to any researcher in the specific scientific field. Their main activities are the organization of workshops and the preparation of common project proposals. The working groups are also the focus of internal mobility within ERCIM.

Interesting working groups from EuroSys perspective: Dependable Software-Intensive Embedded Systems (Erwin Schoitsch, Research Center Seibersdorf/AARIT) Security and Trust Management (Fabio Martinelli, CNR) Smart Environments and Systems for Ambient Intelligence (SESAMI) (Anthony Savidis, Norbert Streitz, Fraunhofer IPSI (http://www.ics.forth.gr/sesami/index.html) eMobility (http://www.iam.unibe.ch/~rvs/ercim/index.html)

Typical objective of such working groups is preparation of common project proposals. The areas they cover are much more narrow than EuroSys. Being more focused, they are therefore a better place for the preparation of FP7 Collaborative Projects.
