Eastern Europe Initiative
EuroSys Eastern Europe Initiative
EuroSys promotes excellence in Computer Systems education, research and industry across Europe. Researchers and practitioners working on Computer Systems in Eastern Europe (as defined below), who may feel somewhat isolated today, are bound to benefit especially from being in contact with their like-minded colleagues in the rest of Europe. Therefore, EuroSys has launched an initiative especially targeted at Eastern Europe, which includes:
Our goals include:
Raising awareness of research and practice in Computer Systems in Eastern Europe. Aside from offering a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences and forming collaborations, EuroSys offers other benefits (listed below).
Increasing the number of Eastern European participants in systems conferences, especially our prestigious annual EuroSys conference. See Travel Grants.
Increasing EuroSys membership by offering discount memberships.
Membership advantages for all
A complete list of our efforts is available here. Of particular interest to young students and researchers in Eastern Europe is exposure to the process used to select papers in the top systems conferences, give feedback on thesis work/proposal, and to help with authoring papers. Examples include:
SOSP Shadow PC in 2007, in which the shadow PC wrote real reviews of the real submissions to SOSP 2007, in parallel with the real PC, and held an actual paper selection meeting.
Authoring Workshop in 2006 and 2007. These workshops had a goal of helping European papers get accepted at major Systems conferences. Workshops included an intensive online paper preparation period, followed by a full-day, hands-on physical meeting co-located with the EuroSys conference.
In addition to being able to participate in the activities listed above, EuroSys membership has additional advantages:
Participation and networking across a vibrant Systems community
Personal help with improving your CV (for students)
Personal help with applying for EU funding (for faculty)
Discounts and travel grants to the yearly EuroSys conference. For grants to EuroSys 2009, see here.
